Welcome to Donegal Mountain Biking Club’s Website. We’re making a few changes to the website in the next few weeks. One of the new categories you will see is Club Profiles where we profile certain club members and their biking stories.

Thanks to our Club Sponsors and Partners for helping out with the Club. We’re always looking for help and ideas so feel free to contact us and let us know what you think.

Mad March Hare MTB Event

Tir Chonaill Gap cycling club, which encompasses the Glenties, Ardara, Portnoo and surrounding areas, is pleased to announce that on the 3rd of March it will be holding its first ever mountain bike event. The name of this event is the Mad March Hare. If you’ve seen the pics of what Hugh and the mad gang have done so far and the stuff that they have made, its going to be a brilliant event and really worth attending so we would ask all club members to get ready for March 3rd and a great day out.

Worth racing in!

The start of this event should create a bit of a stir as the participants have to ride down the steps beside the Garda station in Glenties. They will then follow a van up the Glen of Glenties road for three and a half miles. From this point they’re on their own as they turn off the road and start climbing the mountain, a climb sure to make the riders glad when they have reached the top. But there’s no time to relax as they start the first bit of the descent.
For the next two miles the riders will have to cross narrow wooden bridges, boardwalk, muddy holes if they can find them, even bigger muddy holes without looking for them, more boardwalk and a final descent guaranteed to put a grin on anyone’s face, if they can hang on.

Participants can either do one or two laps, finishing down the steps at the Garda station. Tea and sandwiches will be served afterwards. Entry is open to everyone over the age of 14 years with their own bike. If you don’t want to participate come and watch, or maybe help out with marshaling.

Registration is at twelve o’clock and the event starts 1pm.

The excitement is Mount`n!

Urgent News: Northman MTB Race cancelled

It is with regret that the Donegal Mountain Biking Club have to announce the cancellation of the 2012 Castle Cycles Northman Race. Unfortunately, a herd of up to 50 cattle broke onto the ground on Monday and have completely destroyed the track. The problem was discovered on Wednesday and we have done everything possible to try and rectify the situation, with great assistance from local farmers, etc. In the last few days, we have had diggers, delivery of stones and everything but there is simply too much work to do before Sunday to turn the track into anything other than a muckfest. The Club’s policy of running enjoyable and unique races would not be fulfilled with the damage that has been done to the track. There is more than six inches of mud in places that with forecasted rain over the weekend could will only get worse. Even the berms have been destroyed.
For those of you who have planned to travel or have booked accommodation, please let us know and we will try and assist you in every way possible. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused however, some matters are just beyond our control. We will endeavour to try and make it up to everyone in future races.
We will organise a club spin for Sunday so please see the forum for details: www.donegalmtb.com/Forum

Northman Information

Below is included details on the Northman race this Sunday. We also sent out a newsletter to all Forum members and to those who registered online for the race.

The Northman Race will be located just outside Malin Town. The track itself is totally new, with a completely different lay-out to the first race in the series, the Bogman. This time, competitors will complete a number of laps that weave through meadows and natural woods while overlooking the North Atlantic. Make sure you get a look at the scenery before this race begins though, because when the red mist descends, you’ll only be worried about flowing through the natural singletrack and overtaking in the meadows.
